Nine steel poles were replaced with more durable and safer fiberglass models. In addition, the square underwent replacement of 16 streetlights with higher-wattage fixtures, the installation of four colonial-style streetlights, the renovation of 240 meters of electrical cables with duct restoration, and the installation of three floodlights to enhance lighting.
RioLuz President Rafael Thompson highlighted the importance of the project:
This type of intervention combines technology with the preservation of cultural heritage. São Salvador Square is a landmark in Laranjeiras, and with the new lighting, it gains in safety, comfort, and appreciation of its historical identity. Our commitment is to provide a brighter, more modern, and more welcoming city for all Cariocas.
With these improvements, RioLuz continues to expand the process of modernizing the city's lighting system, ensuring greater quality and enhancing the living spaces of Rio's population.
"The new lighting looks great, especially in the square and the bandstand. Improving the lighting in São Salvador Square while preserving the historic area is very important," says Felipe Canabrava, a Laranjeiras resident.
