City cinemas are inspected by Health Surveillance inspectors

The Rio de Janeiro City Hall, through the Undersecretariat of Health Surveillance, is inspecting 16 movie theaters in the city this week to check their hygiene and sanitary conditions and compliance with COVID-19 prevention measures. On Wednesday (September 16), technicians from the department inspected 09 theaters in eight establishments in Tijuca, Madureira, Vila da Penha and Cachambi, in the North Zone; Botafogo and Copacabana, in the South Zone; and Campo Grande and Bungu, in the West Zone. Inspections continue this Thursday (September 30) in movie theaters in Barra da Tijuca and Jacarepaguá, in the West Zone; Ilha do Governador, in the North Zone; and Botafogo, in the South Zone.

The aim of the action is to provide guidance on the safe return of activities, which have been authorized since Monday (14/09), with a limit of 50% of capacity, marked seats and following other health protocols. Inspectors from the department linked to the Municipal Health Department (SMS) reinforced the importance of practicing the Golden Rules, such as wearing a mask, spacing between chairs and other measures to prevent coronavirus.

– The initiative serves to guide movie theater managers and employees and also to check how the theaters are organized to comply with health protocols and whether they are properly following the Golden Rules – explains inspector Geila Cerqueira Felipe, a nutritionist at the Nutritional Promotion and Policy Center of the Health Surveillance Food Coordination. The teams also checked the employees’ bathrooms and provided guidance on some structural adjustments to the facilities. Agents from the Municipal Public Health Laboratory (Lasp), in turn, collected water samples from the taps for analysis.

At the request of the cinema managers themselves, the inspectors also provided guidance on the consumption and sale of beverages and food in these locations, which are still prohibited and will only be allowed after evaluation by the City Hall's Scientific Committee. It is worth emphasizing that all measures provided for in the city's Recovery Plan are forecasts – just forecasts – and may be changed according to the monitoring of the Covid-19 contagion curves.
