Conservation Department notifies eight properties in Urca for lack of maintenance on sidewalks

The Rio de Janeiro Department of Conservation and Public Services notified eight property owners in the Urca neighborhood in the South Zone on Wednesday (January 08) to maintain their sidewalks. The biggest problems are related to holes caused by the absence or poor installation of Portuguese stones.

According to the Secretary of Conservation and Public Services, Diego Vaz, there will be an increase in inspections, based on the municipal decree that holds the property owner responsible for maintaining the sidewalk in good condition.

– The City Hall has a program that takes care of public sidewalks, beach promenades and squares. There are places where the streets are not in the condition that citizens deserve. And the properties belong to people who can afford to do their own maintenance. The City Hall will increase the charges, will increase the inspection and, if the demands are not met, we will issue fines and the inspection will be strict -, said Diego Vaz.

According to Article 72 of the RPT of Decree “E” 3.800/70, property owners will have 30 days from receipt of the notification to repair the sidewalk. In case of non-compliance, a fine of R$ 1.026,15 will be issued, according to Paragraph 16 of Article 136 of the RLF of Decree “E” 3.800/70. The fine may be daily, if the problem persists, based on Article 14 of Regulation 19, approved by decree 32244, of 10/05/2010.
