The Special Secretariat for Metropolitan Integration of Rio de Janeiro will hold the seminar “Orange May: Integrating actions to combat child and adolescent sexual abuse and exploitation” on May 27, from 05:14 p.m. to 17:XNUMX p.m., at the Carlos Gomes Municipal Theater, in Tiradentes Square, downtown Rio. The SEIM aims to disseminate information on effective actions and good practices that have been implemented by the public sector to eliminate this type of abuse in the municipalities of the Metropolitan Region. The Secretariat also hopes that the seminar will serve as guidance for educators, health professionals, social workers, parents, public administrators, civil society organizations and leaders of the Metropolitan Region of Rio de Janeiro to quickly identify the warning signs of a possible victim. This will make it easier to provide support, combat and report the potential abuser.

– In addition to raising awareness, the meeting provides useful public information on where and how to seek help for victims and their families. We will also be presenting the “SEIM: Integrating Actions – Combating Child and Adolescent Sexual Abuse and Exploitation” award, which will honor projects or campaigns that promote the fight against this type of crime -, says the Secretary of Metropolitan Integration, Luis Santos:

Martha Rocha, Secretary of Social Welfare for the city of Rio de Janeiro, will be one of the speakers at the seminar and will discuss the work carried out by professionals in her department in managing these cases:

– The fight against child and adolescent sexual abuse and exploitation is not a one-sided fight — it’s a fight for all of us. Orange May reminds us that when Social Welfare, Health, Education, Justice and Public Safety work together, the protection network becomes much stronger. This integration makes all the difference: we can act faster, prevent better and provide more humane care to those in need. It’s not enough to just raise awareness — we need to transform this awareness into real actions that truly protect our children. That’s what makes a public policy really work: committed people working together,” concludes Secretary Martha Rocha.

The seminar will also feature the participation of the Undersecretary of Articulation and Integration of the Education Network of the Municipal Department of Education, Hugo Nepomuceno, who will talk about how the school has worked to identify cases and what measures are taken after confirmation of suspicion of abuse:

– The Municipal Department of Education of Rio de Janeiro has increased its investments in the training and qualification of professionals in the education system, with an emphasis on the practice of Specialized Listening. This approach is essential to guarantee the full protection of children and adolescents who are victims of sexual violence, without re-victimizing them and promoting a welcoming, ethical approach that is committed to the rights of children and adolescents -, explains Nepumoceno.

Completing the team, we will have the presence of the president of the Municipal Council for the Rights of Children and Adolescents of Rio de Janeiro, Cristiane Santana, who will share how the bodies that defend the rights of children and adolescents work to prevent new cases of violence.
