Actions mark the National Day to Combat Sexual Abuse and Exploitation of Children and Adolescents - Disclosure/SMPD

The Municipal Department for People with Disabilities will hold a series of actions next Tuesday and Thursday, May 13 and 15, to mark the National Day to Combat Sexual Abuse and Exploitation of Children and Adolescents. The actions are part of the “I protect myself in practice” Project.

The first event will take place this Tuesday (13/05), at 9 am, with lectures on prevention and care for people with disabilities, at the National Archives. It will be open to the public, with registration via the link

On Thursday (15/05), starting at 8 am, the Secretariat will hold an action to promote the blood donation campaign at Hemorio. The action aims to raise awareness among people about preventing violence against people with disabilities, a simple and efficient way to contribute to well-being. People with and without disabilities will be able to donate blood, and each blood bag can benefit up to four people, including victims of violence, accident victims, patients with chronic diseases and children undergoing cancer treatment.

The department also holds, between Monday (12/05) and Friday (16/05), from 9 am to 17 pm, discussion groups, recreational activities, reading, games and activities on prevention and care for people with disabilities, in the seven reference centers for people with disabilities in the municipality, located in the following neighborhoods: Centro, Campo Grande, Irajá, Mato Alto, Santa Cruz, São Conrado and Vila Isabel. The activities are aimed at users and family members served by the city hall.

The National Day to Combat the Sexual Abuse and Exploitation of Children and Adolescents was established by Federal Law 9.970/00 as an achievement that marks the fight for the Human Rights of Children and Adolescents in the country.

– Bringing the two campaigns together is a reminder that caring for others can take different forms, whether through active listening and reporting abuse, or through voluntary blood donation. Both attitudes express empathy, social responsibility and commitment to building a more just and humane society – says the Municipal Secretary for People with Disabilities, Helena Werneck.

– The objective of all actions is to mobilize, raise awareness, inform and call on society to defend the rights of children and adolescents. It is necessary to guarantee every child and adolescent the right to their development in a safe and protected manner, free from abuse and sexual exploitation – he concludes.
