Registration is open for the free sports massage therapy course offered by the Rio de Janeiro Municipal Sports Secretariat. A total of 300 places are available. Those interested should register online and, on Saturday (May 16th), arrive at 9 am with their ID at the Municipal Club in Tijuca, North Zone. This initiative is an opportunity for professional development, especially for those working with physical activities.
– To promote public policies aimed at different sports in the city, it is necessary to never lose sight of the professionals who participate in these activities: from the athletes' first steps to high performance. The continuing education of those who work in Physical Education is part of this challenge. That is why the sports massage therapy course is so important – says the municipal Secretary of Sports, Bruno Ramos.
The initiative is a partnership between the Municipal Department of Sports and the Brazilian Association for Health (ABRAS).
"It's a great opportunity for specialization. Those enrolled in the course will be able to help in the recovery of athletes and, especially, prevent injuries. Muscle rehabilitation can also be mentioned. And these are just some of the benefits that massage therapy brings," explains the undersecretary of the department, Marcelo Arar.
Currently, there are 28 Olympic Villages maintained by the Municipal Sports Secretariat, serving students from different neighborhoods of the city: these units concluded the first quarter of 2026 with more than 55 students and a team of nearly 500 contracted Physical Education teachers. Completing the online form alone does not guarantee enrollment in the sports massage therapy course; validation of registration at the Municipal Club is mandatory.
