Municipal Health Department expands vaccination against influenza

The Rio Municipal Health Department (SMS) is expanding the target audience for influenza vaccination to include the entire population aged six months and older. The measure comes into effect today, April 16, and aims to protect more people against the disease. By 2025, 400 people will have been vaccinated against the flu, and the goal is to protect around 3 million people in Rio.

To get vaccinated, you must go to a health center with your ID and, if available, your vaccination card. The dose is annual: those who were vaccinated last year need to take a new dose this year. For those who have already taken the vaccine, the vaccination schedule is a single dose. This year alone, the city of Rio has recorded 7 deaths and 85 hospitalizations due to the disease.

It is worth noting that the flu vaccine is safe and contains the strains updated for immunization in 2025. The only exceptions for precaution are people with a history of severe allergy to a previous dose of the vaccine. It is not recommended for children under six months of age. In case of doubts, municipal health services will be able to evaluate and provide appropriate guidance.

Vaccination is available in the 240 vaccination rooms in health units and at the Super Centro Carioca de Vacinação, Botafogo units (open from Sunday to Sunday, from 8 am to 22 pm) and Campo Grande, which is located in Park Shopping Campo Grande (open from Sunday to Sunday, according to the shopping center's opening hours).
