Municipal Health Department updates number of beds for Covid-19 and occupancy rate in the capital's SUS network

The City of Rio, through the Municipal Health Department, informs that the municipal network is carrying out currently the absolute majority of Covid-19 care, as state and private hospitals have closed beds dedicated to treating the disease.

It is also important to highlight that Rio City Hall is the only one that maintains a field hospital – the one at Riocentro – in operation, since units from other spheres did not even begin to operate at full capacity – and that, recently, private partnerships with the government of the State of Rio demobilized field hospitals.

Municipal beds and rates

The municipal network has 881 beds for Covid-19. Of this total, 251 are ICU beds. The number of specialized beds in the network is greater than the demand for hospitalizations for treatment of the disease.

Municipal units have been admitting patients to these types of beds early. As there are beds available, patients at higher risk of worsening have been prioritized in intensive care beds.

The occupancy rate of ICU beds for Covid-19 in the SUS network – which includes beds in municipal, state and federal units – in the municipality is 71%. The occupancy rate in hospital beds is 58%.

It is important to highlight that the municipal network did not close any ICU beds.

Hospitalizations

In the municipal network units, there are 453 hospitalized patients, 199 of whom are in the ICU.

The SUS network in the capital has 827 people hospitalized in specialized beds, 387 of which are in the ICU.

There is no waiting list, as there are beds for all patients included in the regulation system.

Throughout the SUS network of Metropolitan Region 1 – which encompasses the capital and municipalities of Baixada Fluminense – 45 people are in the process of being transferred to Covid-19 beds. Of this total, 18 are for ICU.
