The Public Order Department carried out this Wednesday, the 14th, another operation to organize and clear public areas on Rua Visconde de Niterói in the vicinity of the Mangueira community, an area that is influenced by organized crime.

During the operation, 12 tons of rubble were seized and discarded, including mattresses, crates, pallets, unsanitary huts made of cardboard and wood, as well as five knives and sharp objects. Agents from the Department of Social Welfare offered shelter to 12 homeless people, but no one accepted.

– Today we were once again at Rua Visconde de Niterói to carry out an operation to organize and clear public areas. This is an area where we carry out routine actions to organize the area, as well as at Rua Couto de Magalhães, in Benfica, and at Praça dos Estivadores, in the city center. Unfortunately, these are areas where people insist on discarding materials and illegally occupying the sidewalks, but we will not accept this type of irregularity and will continue to take action in this regard -, explains the Secretary of Public Order, Brenno Carnevale.

Agents from the Centro Subprefecture, the Municipal Guard and Comlurb also participated in the action.
