The Public Order Department (Seop) and the Municipal Guard carried out a major operation on Monday (20/01) to combat the presence of parking attendants and illegal parking around important tourist attractions in the city. The actions were carried out in Urca, near the climb to Sugarloaf Mountain, around Praça São Judas Tadeu and in Paineiras. Six attendants and parking attendants were detained and taken to the police station. The operation was supported by the Tourist Police Battalion (BPTUR).

SEOP agents also arrested a man for drug trafficking in Copacabana in the early hours of Sunday to Monday. While conducting a search operation in the area, the team saw a man selling drugs to a tourist. Marijuana, cocaine and other synthetic drugs were found on him. The criminal was taken to the 12th Police Precinct, where he was arrested.

Agencies also carried out actions to organize the long weekend

Seop and GM also carried out actions this weekend and on the holiday (18th, 19th and 20th January) to organize, clear public areas, traffic and monitor parking and irregular loading and unloading, with a special focus on the beaches due to the strong sun.

During the operations, more than a thousand items were seized from irregular street vendors, such as drinks in glass bottles, drinks in general, clothing, large structures, among others.

During traffic and irregular parking inspections, more than 1.500 fines were issued and 183 vehicles were removed due to irregular parking and/or loading and unloading.

The agents also carried out inspections of beachfront stallholders. 48 fines were issued for sand subdivision, lack of price lists, among other infractions in Copacabana and Leme. Thirty-five barbecue grills were also seized on the beachfront.

During inspections on the sand, agents found 54 bathers with speakers and advised them to turn off the sound equipment.

Municipal guards also seized an inflatable balloon on Copacabana beach.

GM-Rio distributed approximately 660 identification bracelets throughout the city's waterfront and parks. Agents also dismantled 32 illegal camps along the waterfront.

– It was a long weekend of hard work here at the Public Order Department, especially at the beaches and tourist spots, due to the increased activity in the city, with sunny days and high temperatures. Our agents seized many illegal products, such as glass bottles, barbecue grills, among others. In addition, we also took six individuals to the police station and seized vests and union badges from people responsible for monitoring parking. And we emphasize that we will continue to do this work through our intelligence sector, together with the Civil Police and Military Police. We will continue to work with a focus on urban planning so that whenever there is a sunny weekend, we can have a calm and orderly city, both for tourists and for the locals and especially for those who are working on the beach -, emphasizes the Secretary of Public Order, Brenno Carnevale.
