The Jacarepaguá Subprefecture coordinated an operation on Thursday morning (March 5th) to tow away abandoned and illegally parked cars on Estrada do Curumaú, in Taquara. A large part of the sidewalk was being used to dump car carcasses and scrap metal, attracting disease-carrying animals such as rats and cockroaches.

Teams from the Parking and Towing Coordination and Inspection Unit (CFER), linked to the Municipal Secretariat of Public Order (Seop), and Comlurb worked at the site removing abandoned cars and illegally dumped garbage. So far, 15 vehicles have been ticketed for illegal parking, four have been towed, and more than 20 tons of garbage have been removed.

The Jacarepaguá Subprefecture, in partnership with the Parks and Gardens Foundation, is developing a project to reclaim public space, ensuring a place for residents of the region to socialize and use.
