The Subprefecture of the North Zone II reinforces order in the vicinity of the Cachambi open-air market.

The Rio de Janeiro City Hall, through the North Zone II Subprefecture, carried out another enforcement action on Sunday (July 12th) at the Basílio de Brito Street Fair in Cachambi. The operation focused on combating illegal parking around the fair and resulted in the issuing of citations to approximately 40 vehicles that disregarded traffic regulations, hindering the circulation of pedestrians and vehicles.

The operation was carried out in partnership with the Secretariat of Public Order (Seop), through the Fair Coordination Office. The teams inspected critical points where vehicles parked in prohibited locations hindered access to sidewalks, garages, and the flow of traffic during the fair's operation.

The new operation continues the ongoing work of regulating the area carried out by the Subprefecture of the North Zone II on Rua Basílio de Brito. Throughout June, approximately 400 market vendors were inspected in four major operations and one technical inspection. During this period, more than 170 educational notices were distributed to discourage the practice of tying wires from stalls directly to power poles, in addition to issuing warnings and immediately correcting irregularities related to sidewalk obstruction and inadequate electrical installations.

– The organization of the fair goes beyond the inspection of the stalls. It also involves ensuring that the surrounding area functions safely and in an organized manner for residents, merchants, and consumers. Combating illegal parking is fundamental to preserving mobility, ensuring access to residences, and allowing for the proper circulation of pedestrians and emergency vehicles – stated the sub-mayor of the North Zone II, Douglas Araújo.

The Subprefecture of the North Zone II reinforces that inspection and regulation operations will continue to be carried out regularly in the region's open-air markets, promoting greater organization, safety, accessibility, and respect for public space.
