The South Zone Subprefecture removes 40 abandoned bicycle carcasses in Copacabana.

An urban order operation coordinated by the South Zone Subprefecture, this Friday (08/07), collected 40 abandoned bicycle carcasses at the entrance of the Sá Freire Alvim Tunnel, in Copacabana. The action was carried out in conjunction with the Local Executive Management (GEL), the Municipal Secretariat of Public Order (SEOP) and the Municipal Guard.

The equipment was attached to the playground railing and along the handrail of the staircase that provides access to the Cantagalo and Pavão-Pavãozinho communities. In an advanced state of deterioration, the structures occupied several sections of the passageway, hindering pedestrian traffic and compromising safety and accessibility in the area. After the removal of the carcasses, the staircase was cleared, ensuring better mobility conditions for those who use the access daily.

 "Public space needs to be free and accessible to the population. These bicycles were completely abandoned, in terrible condition, and were preventing the safe circulation of those who use this staircase daily. More than just removing the carcasses, this action reinforces the importance of spreading a culture of order and respect for public space," stated the sub-mayor of the South Zone, Pedro Angelito.

The operation is part of the ongoing urban planning actions developed by the South Zone Subprefecture, in partnership with other municipal agencies, to preserve public spaces, combat the abandonment of materials on streets, and ensure greater organization, safety, and quality of life for residents and visitors to the region.
