- The Subprefecture of Large Complexes is monitoring the start of construction work in the Complexo do Alemão.
The Subprefecture of Large Complexes participated on Monday (June 22nd) in an institutional visit to the area where the new Campus of the Federal Institute of Education, Science and Technology of Rio de Janeiro (IFRJ) will be implemented, in the Complexo do Alemão.
The meeting, which was attended by the new rector of IFRJ, Thiago Mattos Pinto, members of the Education Committee of the Popular Action Forum of Complexo do Alemão, community leaders and representatives of organized civil society, marked the beginning of the construction of the unit's buildings, the first of the Federal Education Network established in a favela in Rio de Janeiro.
According to Marlí Peçanha, the deputy mayor for the Large Complexes, the arrival of IFRJ (Federal Institute of Rio de Janeiro) in the Complexo do Alemão is a great achievement for the Complexo do Alemão.
"This project represents social transformation, human development, and opportunity for current and future generations, who will have access to quality public education with technical, scientific, and professional training," he emphasized.
The project is the result of a partnership between the Federal Government and the City of Rio de Janeiro and involves an investment of approximately R$ 21 million, through the New Growth Acceleration Program (PAC). The unit is expected to be delivered in the first half of 2028, with the capacity to serve 1.500 students.
The new phase of the project takes place after the demolition of the old structure on the site and the adaptation of the architectural design to the urban and geographical characteristics of the area.
In addition to monitoring the unit's implementation schedule, the Subprefecture of Large Complexes will continue to work on institutional coordination with public agencies and facilities in the area to ensure services are provided to the population during the campus construction period.
The Subprefecture is also already working with merchants operating around the future unit to implement the "Street Vendor in Harmony" project, from the Rio de Janeiro City Hall, which promotes the organization, formalization, and standardization of local commercial activities, stimulating entrepreneurship, professional qualification, income generation, and strengthening the local economy, so that the implementation of the campus also produces positive impacts for residents and workers in the region.
