The BRT Metropolitan Terminal now has a new boarding option for São Paulo.

The Rio de Janeiro City Hall, through the Municipal Secretariat of Transport (SMTR), informs that the Metropolitan BRT Terminal, at Trevo das Margaridas, in Irajá, will have a new interstate travel option to São Paulo starting this Friday (September 4th). The service will be operated by Penha, with departures from Sunday to Friday at 10 pm.

The route from Terminal Margaridas to São Paulo will have its destination at the Tietê Bus Terminal in the city of São Paulo. The bus departs from the Metropolitan BRT Terminal, makes a stop at the Campo Grande Terminal, and continues to São Paulo. In the opposite direction, the São Paulo to Terminal Margaridas route will depart from the Tietê Bus Terminal at 23:20 PM, heading to the Metropolitan BRT Terminal.

– This is a long-standing request from the North Zone and the Baixada Fluminense region. The terminal already integrates 11 bus lines from six cities in the Baixada Fluminense with the BRT (Bus Rapid Transit) system, greatly facilitating the lives of those who travel between Rio and the region. Now it gains another important connection – highlights Mayor Eduardo Cavaliere.

The new operation expands travel options for passengers using the terminal, offering an alternative for interstate travel during the night. The service will be provided by semi-sleeper or sleeper buses, offering greater comfort during the journey.

Integration between Rio and the Baixada Fluminense region

Inaugurated on March 14th of this year, the Metropolitan BRT Terminal operates 24 hours a day. Located at the Trevo das Margaridas interchange in Irajá, at the meeting point of the Presidente Dutra Highway and Avenida Brasil, the terminal now directly integrates intercity bus lines from the Baixada Fluminense region into the Transbrasil corridor.

With 63,4 square meters of built area, the facility currently serves passengers from six municipalities in the Baixada Fluminense region: Nova Iguaçu, São João de Meriti, Mesquita, Nilópolis, Belford Roxo, and Queimados. In total, there are 11 intercity bus lines integrated into the system.

From the terminal, passengers have access to the Transbrasil corridor via an exclusive lane, allowing them to travel to the city center, connecting at the Gentileza Intermodal Terminal (TIG), or continue to areas such as Barra da Tijuca, Recreio dos Bandeirantes, and Tom Jobim International Airport via the Transolímpica and Transcarioca corridors.

With the Jaé Margaridas Single Ticket (BUM) — available to passengers on intercity lines using the Metropolitan BRT Terminal — it is possible to make up to four trips on BRT, VLT, and municipal buses within a 20-hour period, with municipal integration for the price of R$ 5.
