- Gentileza Terminal hosts anti-smoking campaign.
The program includes vaccinations and guidance for those who wish to quit smoking - Photo: Press Release The Rio Municipal Health Department is promoting an awareness and prevention campaign at the Gentileza Terminal on Thursday (August 27th) to mark the National Day to Combat Smoking, celebrated on August 29th. The mobilization aims to increase public access to information and health promotion services, with a focus on prevention and care related to smoking.
The public will be able to participate in activities and receive free services from 8 am to 13 pm, including guidance on smoking and sexually transmitted infections (STIs), as well as prevention and health promotion services.
Among the activities offered are vaccinations against influenza, MMR (measles, mumps, rubella), and yellow fever, auriculotherapy sessions, and the provision of supplies for the prevention of STIs, such as HIV self-tests, condoms, and lubricants.
The campaign reinforces the importance of information and access to health services as prevention tools. In the case of smoking, the initiative also seeks to encourage smokers to seek support to quit the habit and to draw attention to the risks associated with the consumption of tobacco products.
Combating smoking in the municipal network
The municipal health network offers smoking cessation treatment within the Primary Care network. Treatment is provided at health units, with individual and group follow-up and, when indicated by professionals, the use of medication to help control nicotine withdrawal.
People who wish to quit smoking can seek guidance and start treatment at the Primary Care unit closest to their residence.
