Children and young people will be encouraged to create, play and develop new skills - Press Release

The Municipal Secretariat of Science, Technology and Innovation of Rio is opening the doors of the Knowledge Centers to welcome 570 children and young people during the holiday camp in July. With the theme "Beyond the Screen: Games that Connect from the Board to the Digital World," the activities will take place from July 27th to 31st.

The theme was chosen because, despite the importance of technology, screen time is currently a problem for people's physical and mental health, and the goal is for children and teenagers to look at life outside the virtual world, as well as to raise awareness among everyone, including parents, through the activities, about the need for an offline world. Throughout the period, computer screens will be replaced by paper, pen, and creativity.

Children and young people will have the opportunity to discover new and old games, play traditional games, and bring to life all the drawings and learning acquired during the summer camp, playing in the digital world with the help of artificial intelligence. Activities include workshops such as "From Imagination to Digital Hero" and "Connected Tic-Tac-Toe: From Click to Creation," as well as various storytelling possibilities.

The Naves do Conhecimento holiday camp will feature a special trip to the circus. The initiative aims to provide participants with a cultural and recreational experience through observing performances, and to allow them to interact with the circus world. It also aims to present the circus as a network of talents (the trapeze artist, the clown, the magician) and not just as entertainment.

– Technology has the power to broaden horizons through knowledge, and learning gains more meaning when screen time is balanced with real-world experiences. At the Knowledge Ships Holiday Camps, children and young people are invited to explore, create, play, and develop new skills in an environment that combines innovation, community, and creativity – highlighted the Municipal Secretary of Science, Technology and Innovation of Rio, Gabriel Medina.

In July, courses, workshops, lectures, and other activities will continue as normal. 6.215 places will be offered for various courses in July at the Knowledge Centers. These include: Sustainable Robotics; Office with AI in partnership with Senac; Learning to Program Through Play; Cybersecurity for Beginners; Color Theory; and Artificial Intelligence in Content Production.

More information about the holiday camp, courses, workshops, lectures and events is available online.
