Navezinha Carioca opens in Rio das Pedras

The Rio de Janeiro City Hall, through the Department of Science and Technology, in partnership with Uniperiferias, inaugurated, this Monday (1/4), the Navezinha Carioca Rio das Pedras, in the West Zone. The space emerges as an innovative initiative with the objective of promoting the democratization of knowledge, insertion in the job market, exploring the potential of the technology segment, through courses, workshops and events for the population.

Navezinha Rio das Pedras is located at the headquarters of the Semeando Amor Social Project, at Rua Espada de São Jorge, 405. The space has notebooks and audiovisual equipment for users. The Navezinha Carioca project, in partnership with Uniperiferias, plans to implement five units offering at least 350 courses and workshops that will serve more than 5.300 people in one year.

– The Navezinha Carioca is an important achievement for all Rio residents. This project offers free access to technology and training courses for the population. The idea is for the navezinhas to be present throughout the city of Rio – stated the Secretary of Science and Technology, Tatiana Roque.

The Navezinhas Cariocas are smaller versions of the Naves do Conhecimento, which have nine units located in the North and West regions of the city of Rio, offering free internet access, workshops, lectures and qualification courses in various areas focused on future professions.

The Navezinhas are implemented in peripheral regions of the city in territories with social vulnerability indexes, focusing on implementing training strategies in new technologies, games and audiovisual, with the premise of democratizing knowledge, so that all areas of the city have access to the opportunities offered by digital technologies, through courses, workshops and events.

– It is indisputable that technology is a powerful tool for thinking about the future of the city of Rio de Janeiro, and thinking about the city from the perspective of the favelas certainly contributes to a more plural and inclusive city – declared the director of Uniperiferias, Felipe Moulin.

The Rio das Pedras unit is the third Navezinha Carioca opened by the City Hall. The other units are located in the Maré Complex, at the Vida Real Institute, and at the UERJ Maracanã Campus, which will act as an extension of the Navezinha that will soon be opened at the Mangueira block. A unit is also planned to open in Rocinha.
