Navezinha Carioca opens in Rocinha

The Rio de Janeiro City Hall, through the Department of Science and Technology and in partnership with Uniperiferias, inaugurated the Navezinha Carioca in Rocinha, in the South Zone, on Wednesday afternoon (3/4). The Navezinhas are initiatives that aim to spread digital inclusion and contribute to the democratization of knowledge among young people from the outskirts and favelas. The units are an innovative space, providing free training focused on insertion into the job market, exploring the potential of the technology segment, through courses, workshops and events for the population.

– The creation of this new Navezinha in Rocinha, such a symbolic community, is very important. Despite the problems of vulnerability and need for attention from the government, it is a community with great power and inventiveness – stated the Secretary of Science and Technology, Tatiana Roque.

The Navezinha da Rocinha is located in the Rocinha Social, Education and Cultural Center, Rua 3, nº 14. The space has notebooks and audiovisual equipment for users. The Navezinha Carioca project plans to implement five units offering at least 350 courses and workshops that will serve more than 5.300 people in one year. The units are implemented in peripheral regions of the city in territories with social vulnerability rates, with a focus on implementing training strategies so that all areas of the city have access to the opportunities offered by new technologies.

– The Rocinha Ship can complement and amplify everything that this community has been producing and thinking about. It is a great opportunity for the city of Rio de Janeiro to get to know better and join forces with the many initiatives that exist in this powerful community – emphasized the director of UniPeriferias, Felipe Moulin.

The Rocinha unit is the fourth Navezinha in Rio opened by the City Hall. The others are located in the Maré Complex (Instituto Vida Real), in Rio das Pedras (headquarters of the Semeando Amor Social Project), and in the Maracanã Campus of UERJ, which will act as an extension of the Navezinha that will be operating in the Mangueira quadra.

The Navezinhas Cariocas are smaller versions of the Naves do Conhecimento, which have nine units located in the North and West regions of the city of Rio, offering free internet access, workshops, lectures and qualification courses in various areas focused on future professions.
