- City Hall signs agreement to implement artificial intelligence in Knowledge Ships
The event was held at the Knowledge Ship in Nova Brasília, in the Alemão Complex - Gui Espíndola/SMCT The Rio de Janeiro City Hall, through the Municipal Secretariat of Science and Technology, signed, on Monday (1/4), an unprecedented cooperation agreement with OpenAI to provide the ChatGPT-4 generative artificial intelligence system for the Knowledge Ships. The event was held at the Knowledge Ship in Nova Brasília, in Complexo do Alemão, in the North Zone of Rio, and was attended by the Municipal Secretary of Science and Technology, Tatiana Roque, and the Head of International Policy and Partnerships at OpenAI, James Hairston.
– We want to make Rio the capital of innovation. This is yet another initiative by the city government in this direction. Artificial intelligence technologies have the potential to produce profound changes in the world. Promoting digital inclusion and ensuring that the most vulnerable have access to these tools is essential for the world of the future to be more just and egalitarian – said Mayor Eduardo Paes.
– It is essential to ensure that students and visitors to Naves have access to artificial intelligence. Many would not have the possibility of using this tool, since it is paid for. Free access promotes inclusion and equality. We want to train qualified professionals in various areas of the city of Rio, especially in the most vulnerable areas, so that they are capable of dealing with this essential technology to shape the future – said Tatiana Roque.
GPT-4, Generative Pre-trained Transformer 4, is a multimodal language model created by OpenAI in 2023 and the fourth model in the GPT series. It can generate content for a variety of purposes, such as articles and news, scripts for videos, writing emails, making financial projections, and creating codes in different programming languages. GPT-4 is capable of interpreting images and graphs, providing analysis and insights into the content entered.
– Our mission is to ensure that generative artificial intelligence can benefit everyone, so we are very happy to launch this digital inclusion project in Rio de Janeiro – emphasized James Hairston.
During the agreement signing event, a presentation of the new technology was made to users of the Nave do Complexo do Alemão.
The Naves do Conhecimento are centers for innovation and digital inclusion that offer free internet access, workshops, lectures, workshops, and training courses in various areas focused on future professions. The nine units are located in the North and West zones of the city of Rio and aim to enhance the digital experience, mainly benefiting residents of communities located in socially vulnerable areas. Since December 2021, the Naves have already had more than 500 thousand user accesses in the nine units. The tool will also be free to access in the Naves Satélites and Navezinhas Cariocas.
