City Hall inaugurates pavilion and presents technological public policies at Rio Innovation Week

The Rio de Janeiro City Hall is participating in Rio Innovation Week, which will take place until Friday (October 06) in an area of ​​10 square meters in the Mauá Pier region. After the official opening of the event on Tuesday (October 50), Mayor Eduardo Paes inaugurated the Impact for Change pavilion, organized by the Municipal Secretariat of Science and Technology (SMCT), in partnership with the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation. The 03 m² space will discuss the use of new technologies as a tool to reduce inequalities and develop approaches related to the development of knowledge.

– We know that in order to cultivate an environment of innovation, science, technology and creativity, there are a number of factors that need to be observed. One of them is the location. It has to be a place where people feel good, like in our city. Another important thing is that it has to be a place that awakens in people the desire to create and innovate. Rio is ideal for this. It has to have a lot of scientific production, knowledge, quality university centers, and a lot of quality people teaching. We want Rio to be the capital of innovation – said Mayor Eduardo Paes.

The city government will be present at the event with two more spaces. At Armazém 4, Invest.Rio, the municipal agency for attracting and promoting investments, will be presenting the stand “Rio: the best place to live, work and invest” to boost business and promote innovation in the city. The Rio Operations and Resilience Center (COR) will have a stand in the Society 5.0 Sector.

The municipal secretary of Science and Technology, Tatiana Roque, and the secretary of the Civil House, Eduardo Cavaliere, participated in the official opening of Rio Innovation Week. In her speech, Tatiana spoke of the importance of the city hosting and being part of this type of event:

– It is a pleasure to host yet another Rio Innovation Week, especially in the port area, which is becoming a hub for technological development in our city. Everything related to the culture of innovation and technology is already part of the daily lives of Rio residents. As is originality, irreverence, and talent. We know how important technology and innovation are for us to take a leap forward in development and skip steps toward the future. Events like this are essential for us to achieve our goal.

The Impact for Change pavilion will host civil society organizations, universities, scientific institutions and dozens of guest speakers until Friday. In addition to organizing this space, in an initiative to democratize access to information and innovation, SMCT distributed 10 free tickets. This way, different audiences will have access to the event: students from Naves do Conhecimento, students from other City Hall projects, public university quota holders, education employees, science communicators and researchers, cultural workers and members of civil society organizations and social movements. Also present at the pavilion are initiatives from the Rio de Janeiro Youth Secretariat and the Rio G20 Committee.

At Armazém 4, Invest.Rio will boost business and promote innovation in the city. There will be a demonstration of projects from the Rio Municipal Secretariat for Economic Development, Innovation and Simplification (SMDEIS), to which Invest.Rio is affiliated. The highlight of the stand is the Sandbox.Rio Corner, a space that allows companies to test innovative products, services and processes in the city of Rio. SMDEIS will also bring 100 young people from the Programadores Cariocas project, which is expected to train 2024 people in programming languages ​​by the end of 3.

– This was the first day of another major technology event in Rio, consolidating the city as a hub for innovation, in addition to boosting the economy. Until Friday, we expect there to be many business rounds and lots of good exchange, generating more investments in Rio – assessed the municipal secretary of Economic Development, Innovation and Simplification, Chicão Bulhões.

The Rio Operations and Resilience Center has its own booth in the Society 5.0 Sector, in Warehouse 3. The idea is to provide participants with an immersive experience at COR, which is a world reference. The space replicates COR's Situation Room, the location responsible for monitoring the city.

– Brand activation aims to generate value through unique experiences with event attendees, in a dynamic and interactive way. With these actions, the Operations Center intends for RIW participants to create a positive memory of COR, in an affectionate, useful and fun way – explains COR’s chief executive, Marcus Belchior.

The Municipal Department of Education will be presenting the Technological Educational Gymnasiums at the event. Teachers and students will prepare, for example, games based on characters and environments from literary works, demonstrating that it is possible to combine technology with the pages of books. The GETs were created to enhance the development of new skills and abilities in students.
