Nave will offer numerous options for workshops, lectures and courses - Ana Gabrielle Rosa/City Hall of Rio

The Rio de Janeiro City Hall, through the Municipal Department of Science and Technology (SMCT), reopened the Gelson Domingos Knowledge Center in Padre Miguel, in the city's West Zone, this Thursday (4/8). With multipurpose and interactive environments, the Center will offer numerous options for workshops, lectures and courses focused on training people for the job market in the technology area, a segment that has been growing consistently and requires qualified labor.

This is the seventh Knowledge Ship reactivated by SMCT. Since December of last year, the Engenhão, Madureira, Nova Brasília, Triagem, Santa Cruz and Vila Aliança Ships have been reopened to the public, having already received 83.351 user visits. Starting in January 2021, the Science and Technology Secretariat carried out inspections, asset surveys and structural status assessments of the nine Knowledge Ships for new bidding, restructuring and management of all equipment.

Technological environments

The Padre Miguel Knowledge Center was inaugurated on June 16, 2012 and was named after the cinematographer Gelson Domingos, who was killed while covering a TV show in a community in the West Zone in 2011. The facility has several areas where various activities will be held to enhance the digital experience, always with the support of monitors and instructors for users. Broadband internet access is free at the facility, as a result of a partnership with the Claro operator.

Digital Reception – where users register, reserve computers at the Lan Table, Library and Multimedia Room, consult the unit's event schedule and schedules, and make suggestions.

Lan Table – space with computers intended for free access to the internet with guidance from a user support team.
