CIVITAS Rio expands Supercameras and reinforces intelligence in public security in the North Zone.

Mayor Eduardo Cavaliere announced the expansion of CIVITAS Rio's super-cameras in the city. In this new phase, the largest concentration of installations is in the North Zone, starting with Méier and Madureira. The expansion will occur gradually in all regions of the city. The selection of locations takes into account technical criteria and the analysis of crime patterns of different types.

"These neighborhoods have a lot of vehicle and cell phone theft, often committed using motorcycles or cars. We already have surveillance in this region, but we will have many more cameras. What CIVITAS Rio does is an electronic perimeter using radar and a lot of artificial intelligence so we can predict the movement of certain gangs. The message is that it's getting increasingly difficult for criminals who want to use a vehicle to commit a crime in the city," said the mayor.

Super cameras use artificial intelligence to analyze images and cross-reference visual characteristics, such as vehicle color and type, direction, objects, and clothing patterns, to locate people or vehicles of interest and reconstruct routes. A single camera can analyze up to 3 situations simultaneously, expanding the ability to identify patterns that might go unnoticed by the human eye.

"Our cameras are capable of recording up to 3.000 situations simultaneously. This allows CIVITAS Rio to, for example, identify a suspicious vehicle involved in a crime scene using computer vision. Not having the license plate isn't a problem: we can identify the vehicle by color, make, and model. It's more technology on the city streets," stated Davi Carreiro, CEO of CIVITAS Rio.

Today, Rio has 13 cameras, including more than 3.500 smart super-cameras. By the end of the year, there will be more than 6.500 super-cameras, within a system that will exceed 16 cameras. All neighborhoods in the city have coverage from CIVITAS Rio equipment, which supports police forces and the justice system in crime investigation, evidence gathering, and the identification and tracking of criminals.

CIVITAS Rio cross-references images and data, transforming the records into evidence that can help identify suspects, connect incidents, and advance investigations.

Digital safety belt

The digital security belt is also expanding to access points in Rio. On September 16th, a new Digital Wall will be installed on the approach to the Rio-Niterói Bridge, on the Rio side.

The Walls expand support for investigations involving travel within the Metropolitan Region. They help identify suspicious routes, reconstruct paths, and cross-reference information between municipalities. Therefore, a recorded movement at an access point can contribute to solving a crime and connecting different incidents.

The expansion will continue in the coming years. By 2028, the forecast is that Rio will have 15 smart super-cameras, in addition to expanding the Digital Walls at the main access points and high-traffic areas.
