Comlurb launches campaign to encourage selective collection in Recreio, this Saturday (9/11) - Comlurb

Comlurb is promoting a campaign to encourage selective waste collection this Saturday (9/11) at the open-air market on Avenida Genaro de Carvalho, in Recreio dos Bandeirantes, in the West Zone, from 8 am to 13 pm. The campaign has been running since March of last year. In 2023, Comlurb's focus was on squares and beaches, with a total of 48 actions in highly visible locations in the North, South, Central and West zones. This year, the actions will be concentrated in open-air markets in all regions of the city.

During the campaign, informative and technical pamphlets are distributed to answer questions and provide guidance to the population. Currently, Comlurb's selective collection service serves 122 neighborhoods in Rio. All collected material is delivered to 28 waste picker cooperatives, which separate and sell the products. Recyclable waste thus guarantees work and income for cooperative members and their families.

Currently, door-to-door collection is done once a week, on alternate days to household collection. The population can find out about the day and time of collection on each street in web page.

For the recycling cycle to be increasingly successful, it is essential that residents participate in this process, promoting the separation of waste in their homes. Without the participation of the population, the selective collection service becomes unproductive.

Comlurb ensures that all street markets in the city are kept clean, sweeping the entire area and surrounding area and performing hydraulic cleaning with reused water. The company asks for the collaboration of street vendors so that waste is properly disposed of in containers or plastic bags to make the work of street cleaners easier and to speed up the cleaning service even more.
