Selective collection serves 117 neighborhoods in the city - Disclosure This Saturday (October 18th), Comlurb is promoting a campaign to encourage selective waste collection at the street market on Rua Duquesa de Bragança, in Grajaú, in the North Zone. The campaign began in March 2023, in highly visible locations in the North, South, Central, and West zones, with a focus on squares and beaches. Since last year, the efforts have been concentrated in street markets throughout the city.
During the campaign, informational pamphlets are distributed, with technicians present to answer questions and provide guidance. The selective collection service covers 117 neighborhoods in the city. All waste is delivered free of charge to 30 waste picker cooperatives, which separate and sell the products. The recyclable waste thus guarantees work and income for the cooperative members, benefiting approximately 450 families.
Currently, collection at residents' doors is done once a week, on alternate days to household collection. The population can find out about the day and time of collection on each street in the service page. If the street is not included, the request for inclusion can be made through the City Hall's Call Center 1746.
For the recycling cycle to be increasingly successful, it's crucial that residents participate in this process by ensuring the separation of recyclable waste in their homes. Comlurb ensures the cleanliness of all street markets in the city, sweeping the entire market and surrounding area and performing hydraulic cleaning with recycled water. The company asks for the vendors' cooperation in ensuring that waste is properly packaged in containers or plastic bags to facilitate the work of street cleaners and speed up the cleaning service.
