Comlurb is carrying out, this Friday (July 24th), a campaign to encourage selective waste collection at the street market on Rua Joaquim Méier, in Méier. Since March 2023, the campaign has been present in highly visible locations throughout the municipality, with a focus on squares, beaches and street markets, with teams disseminating information and distributing informational leaflets about the service.

Selective waste collection serves 119 neighborhoods in the city. All materials are delivered free of charge to 30 waste picker cooperatives, which separate and sell the products. Recyclable waste thus guarantees work and income for the cooperative members, benefiting approximately 450 families. Currently, door-to-door collection is done once a week, on alternate days to the regular household waste collection. Residents can find out the day and time of collection for each street at [website/link - needs to be filled in]. Comlurb websiteIf the street is not registered, the request for inclusion can be made through the City Hall's 1746 Customer Service Center.

For the recycling cycle to be increasingly successful, it's crucial that residents participate in this process by ensuring the separation of recyclable waste in their homes. Comlurb ensures the cleanliness of all street markets in the city, sweeping the entire market and surrounding area and performing hydraulic cleaning with recycled water. The company asks for the vendors' cooperation in ensuring that waste is properly disposed of in containers or plastic bags to facilitate the work of street cleaners and speed up the cleaning service.
