Currently, Comlurb's selective collection service serves 122 neighborhoods in Rio - Disclosure

Comlurb is holding an awareness campaign to encourage selective waste collection this Saturday (15/5), starting at 8 am, in a social event at Praça Lautaro, on Rua Américo da Rocha, in Marechal Hermes, in the North Zone. The event will feature Chegando de Surpresa, a group that makes songs about the correct disposal of waste. The event aims to encourage residents of Rio to separate potentially recyclable materials at home. The goal is to get the recycling wheel turning, in addition to reinforcing selective waste collection routes.

The campaign to encourage selective waste collection has been running since March of last year. In 2023, Comlurb's focus was on squares and beaches, with a total of 48 actions, in highly visible points in the North, South, Central and West zones. During the campaign, informative pamphlets are distributed, and technicians answer questions and guide the population.

Currently, Comlurb's selective waste collection service serves 122 neighborhoods in Rio. All collected material is delivered to 28 waste picker cooperatives, which separate and sell the products. Recyclable waste thus guarantees work and income for cooperative members and their families. Door-to-door collection is done once a week, on alternate days to home collection. The public can find out the collection day and time on each street in the city. service page.

For the recycling cycle to be increasingly successful, it is essential that residents participate in this process, promoting the separation of waste in their homes. Without the participation of the population, the selective collection service becomes unproductive.
