Carnival 2026: On the first weekend of mega-blocks, Comlurb prepares a major cleaning operation.

On the first weekend of mega-block parties in the city, Comlurb prepared a special cleaning plan, with sanitation workers at all the official block party locations. On Saturday (January 24th), the main attractions will be the Chá da Alice block party, the first mega-block party to take place this year, on the Preta Gil Circuit, in the city center, starting at 7 am, and the Chame Gente block party, which starts at 10 am on São Conrado Beach. On Sunday (January 25th), it will be the turn of the Bloco da Lexa to take over the streets of Primeiro de Março and Presidente Antônio Carlos. Later, at 2 pm, the Só Caminha block party will gather at Largo dos Leões, in Humaitá.

Also on Sunday, there will be increased cleaning operations on Copacabana Beach due to the technical rehearsal of the Beija-Flor Samba School on Avenida Atlântica. Comlurb's cleaning operation is carried out before, during, and after each parade and Carnival event. Cleaning will be done on the main streets where the parades take place and throughout the surrounding area, including access streets and adjacent streets, with services including mechanized sweeping, washing, emptying of trash cans and containers, and collection and removal of waste.

The cleaning service will extend until the last day of the festivities, Sunday (February 22nd), marked by the passage of Monobloco, on the Preta Gil Circuit. The total workforce throughout the entire period, from the pre-Carnival events onwards, will reach 13.714 workers, including 9.736 street cleaners. Comlurb will provide the largest number of equipment for event services in the city, with 13,000 containers, including 10,000 with a 240-liter capacity and 3,000 high-capacity containers of 1.200 liters, so that revelers can properly dispose of their waste.

During Carnival 2026, Comlurb will carry out the largest hydraulic and mechanized cleaning operation in the city's history. Throughout the street Carnival, the company will have 1.507 vehicles, including compactor trucks, satellite trucks, dump trucks, electric carts, large sweepers, mini-sweepers, and tractors. There will also be 180 leaf blowers. All vehicles and equipment will work in three shifts.

After the parade floats have passed, Comlurb teams will perform hydraulic cleaning using reused water and 40 liters of soap. This will involve 30 water tanker trucks, 26 vans equipped with hydraulic cleaning equipment, and five trucks with hydraulic cleaning equipment. Following the cleaning, eucalyptus essence will be applied using 125 backpack sprayers, including in areas with portable toilets. Five thousand liters of concentrated essence will be used throughout the Carnival period.

Comlurb will also be responsible for cleaning the four medical posts set up in the parade area for the carnival groups, two in the Preta Gil Circuit in the city center, one in Praça do Lido, and one in Praça Nossa Senhora da Paz in Ipanema. All routine services of the company will be maintained normally throughout the city during the entire pre-Carnival and Carnival period.
