The Rio City Hall presented the new fleet for household collection and removal of public waste from the South Zone and Greater Tijuca, this Friday (01/11), at Aterro do Flamengo. In total, 64 vehicles, six thousand 1.200-liter containers, 88 5m³ multipurpose stationary dumpsters and 12 7m³ compactor boxes were purchased, to optimize and better organize the collection in the two regions, ensuring greater efficiency and quality in the Company's services.

Mayor Eduardo Paes, alongside Comlurb president Flávio Lopes, handed over the renewed fleet of trucks at an event at Aterro do Flamengo. He highlighted the entire recovery that the public company has undergone in the last three and a half years.

– I remember the state we found Comlurb in in 2021 was chaotic. We made a massive investment and recovered this public company that has exemplary employees. That feeling of an abandoned city, full of garbage, no longer exists. And today we continue to advance more and more – said the mayor of Rio.

Of the 64 vehicles, 38 are compactor trucks for household waste collection services, six dump trucks for removing public waste; 12 mini dump trucks for operations in hard-to-reach areas, such as narrow streets and alleys, especially in communities; four double polycranes, for collecting waste from rubbish bins; three water tankers for washing public spaces and cleaning street markets and events, and one dump truck exclusively for removing semi-buried containers, such as the one at Ecoponto Santo Amaro, in Catete.

– This renovation is important because all of our compactor trucks will have a rear attachment that enables them to handle large boxes of 1.200 liters. It is a new feature that will mainly benefit our communities – explained the president of Comlurb.

The vehicle monitoring system has also been improved to ensure more detailed and accurate operational reports for compliance with the routes on the established days and times. The information will be received in real time by Comlurb's operations center, which operates 24 hours a day, XNUMX days a week, and transmitted to managers in order to speed up home collection services. Monitoring facilitates decision-making on the need for possible changes to routes and for emergency response in the city.

With the acquisition of new 1.200-liter containers, which will have a special paint job to ensure a longer lifespan, the Company will ensure faster collection in communities, as they have implements that facilitate the disposal of waste directly into the trucks. This was not possible under the current contract, as the containers did not have the devices that allowed them to be tipped directly into the truck.

In addition, the containers will be distributed in places with high traffic and on beaches, to make it even easier to dispose of waste during the summer, such as coconuts consumed on the beach. The new compactors and stationary dumpsters will replace the current ones at the region's recycling points and will be used to set up new voluntary drop-off points (ecopoints).

– We increased the number of boxes in the city. We had 1.500 and now have 6, a very significant increase. And we also put a number of hybrid plastic boxes on the beaches, which are better than the old metal boxes, which rust quickly, giving them an aged appearance – highlighted Flávio Lopes.
