Comlurb celebrates World Recycling Day with an awareness event this Saturday.

The sanitation workers from the "Chegando de Surpresa" group use music and dance in Comlurb campaigns - Press Release Comlurb is promoting a large awareness and incentive campaign for Selective Collection this Saturday (May 16th), from 8 am to 12 pm, at the street market on Rua Professor Ortiz Monteiro, in the Laranjeiras neighborhood, South Zone of the city, for World Recycling Day, celebrated on Sunday (May 17th). Company technicians and sanitation workers from Chegando de Surpresa, who use music and dance in campaigns, will liven up the event with the distribution of pamphlets, guidance, and tips to market-goers about the importance of reducing, reusing, and properly disposing of waste for environmental preservation.
Comlurb's selective waste collection program serves more than 70% of the city's neighborhoods. All collected material is delivered free of charge to 30 waste picker cooperatives, which separate and sell the products. The recyclable waste thus guarantees work and income for the cooperative members, benefiting approximately 450 families. Currently, door-to-door collection is done once a week, on alternate days to the regular household waste collection.
For the recycling cycle to be increasingly successful, it is essential that residents participate in this process by separating recyclable waste in their homes. The public can find out about the day and time of the collection. Collection information for each street can be found on the Comlurb website.. If the street is not included, the request for inclusion can be made through the City Hall's Call Center 1746.
