- Comlurb and Light Conecta begin partnership for tree trimming services in the city of Rio.
Light and Comlurb will use trucks that allow tree pruning without power outages - Beth Santos/Rio City Hall Comlurb and Light Conecta launched, this Thursday (January 8th), an unprecedented operational partnership in the country in the area of urban cleaning, which will allow for the pruning and removal of trees in conflict with the electrical network through a live-line handling system. The aim is to ensure greater safety during pruning without the need to shut off the power supply.
The contract includes three specialized trucks and technical teams trained by Light Conecta, which is responsible for carrying out the operation, including qualified personnel and equipment. Comlurb will be responsible for issuing the necessary technical reports, as well as monitoring the services performed. Light SESA (the distributor) remains responsible for the electrical network and specialized technical support, in accordance with current regulations.
– This technology already existed, but it had never been implemented under Comlurb's management, only by Light. Now we have a specific contract to manage the planning, scheduling, equipment, and teams so that we can do the work independently of Light's schedule. We trained the sanitation workers specifically for this tree trimming work. There will be six professionals on each truck. With this, we expect to gain productivity in this tree trimming work in the city – stated the president of Comlurb, Jorge Arraes, informing that the contract for the service is for two years.
With the new operation, tree management in the city becomes more dynamic and agile, allowing for a reduction in the backlog of tree pruning and removal requests registered with the 1746 Call Center, which historically depend on joint action with the energy concessionaire. The initiative also expands the capacity to respond to the population's demands through the same channel, without altering the institutional duties of each agency involved.
"With the acquisition of these three trucks, we will be able to perform this service safely. We want to guarantee this for all workers in the field. And to the residents who suffer from the anguish of seeing a tree not being pruned, I want to say that now we will have agility in carrying out this service," said the Secretary of Conservation and Public Services, Diego Vaz.
In this first phase, Comlurb will prioritize critical cases, with an imminent risk of trees falling in direct conflict with the electrical grid, reinforcing the safety of the population and the continuity of services.

According to Light's vice president, Vinícius Roriz, the partnership with Comlurb perfectly reflects what Light Conecta aims to do: bring innovative and safe solutions to the complex day-to-day operations of the city.
– This is a contract with very high technical requirements. The equipment reaches high into the treetops, and the professionals are able to work with the lines energized. This way, we don't have to shut off the power during the operation, and thus avoid the inconvenience of leaving residents without electricity while the work is being carried out.
