Comlurb makes special planning for the Rio Marathon and Half Marathon

Comlurb has prepared a special integrated operational plan for the Rio Half Marathon, next Sunday (14/11), and the Rio Marathon (15/11), on Monday, the Proclamation of the Republic holiday. On each day, 255 street cleaners will be distributed in teams, working before, during and after the events. During the races, the street cleaners will be along the entire route, including the hydration points, performing mechanized and manual sweeping services, and removing and collecting waste discarded by runners and spectators, most of which are plastic water cups.

The equipment used on both days includes: 20 blowers to help the street sweepers during the sweeping; two street sweepers; two water tankers to wash the streets with recycled water the night before and immediately after the events; and five trucks to remove the waste. Thirty-six 36-liter metal boxes and 1200 180-liter containers will be available along the entire route. The Half Marathon will start at Leblon Beach and finish at Aterro do Flamengo. The Marathon will start and finish at the same point, Aterro do Flamengo, and will run along the entire coastline of the South Zone, from Flamengo to São Conrado.

Comlurb has also been working on pre-cleaning for the two races since Monday, 8/11, preparing the circuit that will be used by the runners, with the following services: mechanized and manual sweeping, weeding, waste removal, mowing of vegetation, maintenance of flowerbeds and gardens, cleaning of drains, removal of graffiti and illegal advertising, cleaning of signage, maintenance and installation of waste bins, repairs to urban furniture, and cleaning of floating waste in the region of the Museum of Tomorrow, in Praça Mauá, with a catamaran.

The Company also carried out a major tree management operation along the marathon route from 8/11 to 11/11, with 332 pruning operations, 149 of which were mechanized and 183 to resolve conflicts with signage, in addition to one removal. In total, 74 street cleaners were involved, supported by 16 trucks, eight with aerial baskets and eight for removing branches, in addition to four vans.
