In addition to helping organize waste, recycling points also prevent the spread of diseases - Marcelo Cortes/Comlurb Comlurb reached, this Saturday (12/13), the milestone of 100 eco-points inaugurated in all regions of the city since 2022. With this latest delivery, in the Aço Community, in Santa Cruz, the Company makes history with an important advance in environmental policy in the municipality. In addition to helping organize waste, the eco-points also prevent the spread of diseases, bringing more quality of life to residents and improving public health.
At the inauguration, which featured entertainment by the group Chegando de Surpresa, composed of sanitation workers who use music and dance in awareness campaigns, Comlurb launched the system. Find your Recycling Point here.An interactive map showing all the recycling points scattered throughout the city. This simple, digital tool, accessible to any citizen who wants to locate the nearest voluntary disposal point to their home, is a partnership with the Pereira Passos Institute (IPP) and is integrated into the Urban Information System of the Municipality of Rio de Janeiro (SIURB). On the map, it is possible to trace routes to reach one of the recycling points and properly dispose of waste.

The system is georeferenced. Once the citizen chooses the recycling point, they simply click on "how to get there" and will be directed to a map that will trace the route from their starting point to the selected unit. The device will be available on the Company's website starting this Saturday.
Comlurb's president, Jorge Arraes, expressed his joy at delivering the 100th recycling point and is already setting goals for next year.
– This 100th recycling point has a lot of symbolic meaning; obviously, it's a very happy day for all of us. But we're already planning more recycling points for next year. We have a team ready here at Comlurb to reach our goal of 150 by the end of 2026.
The recycling centers represent a historic advance in Rio's environmental policy and, thanks to them and the installation of high-capacity containers throughout the city, Comlurb (the city's waste management company) has already recorded 28% less litter thrown on the streets, equivalent to about 2.200 tons of waste per day that now have the correct destination. Installed mainly in communities, the spaces have compacting bins to receive household waste and multi-purpose bins for rubble and unusable items such as furniture, mattresses and appliances, as well as tree branches.
