  • Comlurb inaugurates two recycling points in the Salgueiro community.
With the two units, the Company will be able to remove 80 tons of waste per day from the area - Press Release

Comlurb inaugurated two eco-points this Saturday morning (November 15th) to serve the Salgueiro community in the Greater Tijuca region, in the North Zone. With the two units, the Company will be able to remove 80 tons of waste per day from the area. The opening event of the eco-points featured Chegando de Surpresa, a group of sanitation workers who use music and dance in awareness campaigns.

The unit at Rua General Rocca, 99, has a compacting container for household waste and two multi-purpose containers for debris and unusable items such as furniture, mattresses, and appliances, as well as tree branches. The other unit, at Rua Francisco Garça, s/n, has one compacting container and one multi-purpose container.

Comlurb has installed 95 eco-points throughout the city since 2022, and the goal is to reach 100 by the end of the year. In addition to helping manage waste, these facilities also prevent the spread of disease, leading to a better quality of life for residents and improved public health.

With the opening of recycling centers and the installation of high-capacity containers throughout the city, the Company aims to reduce illegal dumping at critical points in the city. Today, Comlurb already accounts for 20% less garbage thrown on the streets, equivalent to about 1.600 tons of waste per day that now have the correct destination.

– Achieving this means that we are indeed bringing Rio de Janeiro to another level compared to other cities in Brazil and the world in terms of city cleanliness. This is not just visual perception; it is also measured by weighing the garbage that we see every day. It is quite an arduous task; the city is very large, but it is our obligation to solve this – stated the president of the Company, Jorge Arraes, accompanied by the sub-mayor of Grande Tijuca, Higor Gomes.
