The recycling centers and the installation of high-capacity containers aim to reduce illegal dumping at critical points - Press Release Comlurb launched the Rodrigo de Freitas Lagoon System Ecopoint this Friday morning (December 12th). The new space, located next to Comlurb's nautical base on Avenida Borges de Medeiros, between the soccer fields and the Piraquê Club, is an ecological ecopoint focused on the proper disposal of waste and environmental education initiatives for residents and visitors to the area. The event included the participation of 40 children from the municipal schools GET Capistrano de Abreu and GET Pedro Ernesto, who planted seedlings and released guaiamum crabs, with the participation of biologist Mario Moscatelli, responsible for the preservation and replanting of mangroves in the lagoon.
According to the president of Comlurb, Jorge Arraes, this recycling point has the same responsibilities as the other 98 already launched in the city, but with the added benefit of contributing to the work already being done by the City Hall and biologist Mario Moscatelli in preserving the lagoon.
"This is another point for organizing the collection and rationalizing the distribution of waste. It's number 99; we only need one more to reach our goal for the year," said Jorge Arraes.
The goal will be reached this Saturday (December 13th) with the launch of the 100th recycling point in the Aço community, in Santa Cruz. Besides helping with waste management, the recycling points also prevent the spread of diseases, leading to a better quality of life for residents and improved public health. The recycling points and the installation of high-capacity containers aim to reduce illegal dumping at critical points in the city. Today, the company already accounts for 28% less garbage thrown on the streets, equivalent to approximately 2.200 tons of waste per day that now have the correct destination.
The new recycling point features a 7m³ compacting container for household waste and a multi-purpose container for construction debris and unusable items such as furniture, mattresses, and appliances, as well as tree branches. During the event, children used colorful mats to paint and draw with colored pencils on small panels with children's themes, and Chegando de Surpresa, a group of sanitation workers who use music and dance in awareness campaigns, enlivened the inauguration. The Secretary of Education, Renan Ferreirinha, and the president of CET-Rio, Luiz Eduardo Guerra, attended the event.
