Comlurb opens 107 new voluntary waste drop-off points since 2021 - Press Release Comlurb inaugurated, this Friday (March 13th), the Mont Serrat Ecopoint, in Vargem Grande, in the Southwest Zone. With this, the Company reaches 107 new voluntary waste delivery points since 2021, seven of which were this year: Chacrinha Ecopoint, in Praça Seca; and Vila Verde, Pastor Almir, 199 and Roupa Nova Ecopoints, in Rocinha, Cruzeiro do Sul Ecopoint, in Catete, and Mont Serrat Ecopoint, in Vargem Pequena.
The recycling centers represent a historic advance in Rio's environmental policy and, thanks to them and the installation of more than 15 high-capacity containers throughout the city, Comlurb has already recorded 28% less garbage thrown on the streets, equivalent to about 2.200 tons of waste per day that now have the correct destination.
In addition to helping with waste management, recycling centers also prevent the spread of disease, leading to a better quality of life for residents and improved public health. Installed mainly in communities, these spaces have compacting bins for household waste and multi-purpose bins for construction debris and unusable items such as furniture, mattresses, and appliances, as well as tree branches.
The opening of the recycling center featured entertainment by the group Chegando de Surpresa, composed of sanitation workers who use music and dance in awareness campaigns.
Any citizen can find the nearest recycling point to their home, in a work Launched by Comlurb, this simple, digital tool is a partnership with the Pereira Passos Institute (IPP) and is integrated into the Urban Information System of the Municipality of Rio de Janeiro (SIURB). The interactive map allows users to plan routes to reach one of the recycling points and properly dispose of waste. The system is georeferenced. Once a citizen chooses a recycling point, they simply click on "how to get there" and will be directed to the map, which will trace the route from their starting point to the selected unit.
