The new space is located at number 715 on Rua Pedro Américo - Press Release Comlurb inaugurated, on the morning of this Wednesday (11/19), an ecopoint to serve the Pedro Américo community, in Catete, in the South Zone. With this new unit, the Company now has 97 voluntary delivery points in all regions of the city since 2022, and is three away from meeting the goal of 100 units by the end of the year. The opening event featured the presence of Chegando de Surpresa, a group of sanitation workers who use music and dance in awareness campaigns.
The new facility is located at number 715 on Rua Pedro Américo and features a compacting container for household waste and a multi-purpose container for construction debris, unusable items such as furniture, mattresses, and appliances, as well as tree branches. In addition to helping organize waste, these recycling points also prevent the spread of disease, leading to a better quality of life for residents and improved public health.
The president of Comlurb, Jorge Arraes, was present at the inauguration and reinforced the importance of the recycling points:
– We are inaugurating the 97th recycling point here on Rua Pedro Américo. With this and the high-capacity containers, we are implementing a new public policy in Rio de Janeiro, which changes the nature of waste collection in the city, providing even more quality of life for the population.
With the opening of recycling centers and the installation of high-capacity containers throughout the city, Comlurb aims to reduce illegal dumping at critical points in the city. Today, the company already accounts for 20% less garbage thrown on the streets, equivalent to about 1.600 tons of waste per day that now have the correct destination.
