Comlurb inaugurates the Tomás Coelho and Morro do Cruz recycling centers.

Comlurb inaugurated, this Wednesday (November 12th), the Tomás Coelho eco-point, next to Morro do Juramento, and Morro do Cruz, in Andaraí, both in the North Zone. With this, the Company reaches 90 units installed in all regions of the city since 2022. Both communities now have a compactor for receiving household waste. Regarding multi-purpose containers for receiving rubble and unusable items, such as furniture, mattresses and unused appliances, as well as tree branches, there are two in Tomás Coelho and one in Morro do Cruz.

Comlurb's goal is to reach 100 recycling points by the end of the year. In addition to helping with waste management, these facilities also prevent the spread of disease, leading to a better quality of life for residents and improved public health.

 

With the inaugurations and installation of high-capacity containers throughout the city, Comlurb aims to reduce the illegal dumping of waste at critical points in the city. Today, the company already accounts for 20% less garbage thrown on the streets, equivalent to about 1.600 tons of waste per day that now have the correct destination.

The president of Comlurb, Jorge Arraes, participated in the inaugurations and reaffirmed his commitment to the environmental cause in the city.

– The recycling point is part of a public policy to rationalize and organize waste collection, with separate equipment for household waste and construction debris. It's important to say that the more we do to reduce the amount of waste going to the landfill in Seropédica, the more important things we will be doing at the same time: addressing environmental issues, because the landfill's lifespan will be longer; improving collection logistics; and reducing the operational cost of the service.

This year alone, Comlurb has already launched 29 eco-points: São Carlos, in Estácio; Vila dos Sonhos, in Caju; Biquinha, in Vidigal; Jupará, in Mangueira; Conjunto Habitacional Bandeirantes, in the César Maia Community; Campo Grande, on Rua Maria Teresa; São Tomé, in Santa Cruz; Rocinha; Chácara do Céu, in Borel; Fazendinha, in the Complexo do Alemão; Águia de Ouro, in Inhaúma; Chácara do Céu, in Leblon; Parque Proletário, in the Complexo da Penha; Jardim Novo, in Realengo; Catiri, in Bangu; Karatê – Casinhas Novas, in Cidade de Deus; Barreira do Vasco, in São Cristóvão; 4 Bicas, in Penha Circular; Via Light, in Rio das Pedras; Kelson, in Penha; Vitória Régia in Lagoa; Praça da Paloma, in the Complexo do Alemão; Providência, in Santo Cristo; Guarda, in Del Castilho; Cinco Marias, in Guaratiba; Acari; Pedreira, in Fazenda Botafogo; Tomás Coelho; and Morro do Cruz, in Andaraí.
