Comlurb opened this Tuesday the Ecoponto Teixeira Brandão, in Taquara

Comlurb inaugurated, this Tuesday morning (8/8), the Teixeira Brandão Ecopoint, in the Juliano Moreira Colony, in Taquara, Jacarepaguá. This is the sixth ecopoint of the 25 planned for this year – the other five are: Costa Barros; Praia da Rosa, in Tauá, and Boogie Woogie, in Pitangueiras, both on Governador Island; Nova Esperança, in Gardênia Azul; Embratel Complex, in Manguinhos.

The ecopoint is the largest ever built by Comlurb, with five boxes, two compacting boxes for household waste, two smaller stationary boxes and a large dumpster for rubble, branches and useless goods, such as unused furniture and appliances.

Lino Freire has lived in the colony for 30 years and recognizes the positive effects of the recycling point for the local community:

– This recycling point is a milestone for our community. This initiative is essential for people to re-educate themselves about waste and to start disposing of it correctly. This place was very run down.

The new space is open 24 hours a day, Monday through Sunday, and serves the population of the communities of Dois Irmãos, Entre Rios, Campo do XV, Área Verde and the colony itself. The Chegando de Surpresa group, made up of street cleaners who compose and sing songs to raise awareness about the correct disposal of waste, participated in the inauguration, with a great sense of humor.

Comlurb president Flávio Lopes celebrated this new delivery to the population:

– We are very happy with this new inauguration in an area that was regularly used for irregular disposal. Comlurb used to remove 120 tons of waste per week from this area. We hope to count on the support of the local population to keep the waste in an orderly manner so that everyone benefits, with a much better quality of life.

In addition to the ecopoints, Comlurb opened a Voluntary Waste Delivery Point in the Nova Divinéia community, in Grajaú, in July, with two boxes to receive waste.

The Company is committed to renovating and installing new recycling points in several areas of the city, especially in areas with the highest risk of irregular waste disposal. In this way, Comlurb ensures that previously degraded locations now have organized waste disposal points, with regular removal by trucks. In addition to being essential for organizing waste, recycling points help control vectors and improve public health.

In 2022, 20 ecopoints were opened: Vagão and Vila Jurema, in Realengo; Santo Amaro, in Catete; Madureira, under the Negrão de Lima Viaduct; Mineira, in Catumbi; communities of Vigário Geral and Parada de Lucas; Amarelinho, in Irajá; Novo Lar, in Recreio; Camarista Méier, in Engenho de Dentro; Mangueira; on Paranapuan Avenue, at the height of Morro do Dendê; Vila Joaniza, Parque Royal and Pixunas, on Governor's Island; Sá Viana, on the street of the same name in Grajaú; Arará, in Benfica; Merendiba, in Penha; Juramento, in Vicente de Carvalho; and Fogueteiro, in Rio Comprido.
