  • Comlurb starts campaign to encourage selective collection at open-air markets on Saturday, in Ramos
This Friday (11/10), Comlurb is running an awareness campaign about selective collection at an open-air market in Botafogo - Rio City Hall

Comlurb will start this Saturday (9/3) at Rua Felisbelo Freire, in Ramos, in the North Zone, starting at 8 am, a series of actions in the city's street markets with the aim of spreading the awareness campaign to encourage the company's selective collection. The goal is to encourage Rio residents to separate potentially recyclable materials at home, helping to turn the wheel of recycling around, in addition to reinforcing selective collection routes.

The campaign to encourage selective waste collection has been running since March last year. In 2023, Comlurb's focus was on squares and beaches, with a total of 48 actions, in highly visible points in the North, South, Central and West Zones.

During the campaign, informative pamphlets are distributed, and technicians in the area answer questions and provide guidance to the population. Currently, Comlurb's selective collection service serves 122 neighborhoods in Rio. All collected material is delivered to the 28 waste picker cooperatives, which separate and sell the products. Recyclable waste thus guarantees work and income for the cooperative members and their families. Currently, door-to-door collection is done once a week, on alternate days to home collection. The population can find out about the collection day and time on each street in the city. page about selective collection.

For the recycling cycle to be increasingly successful, it is essential that residents participate in this process, promoting the separation of waste in their homes. Without the participation of the population, the selective collection service becomes unproductive.
