On Tuesday (June 2nd), Comlurb launched another phase of the Clean Fair project at the street market on Rua Galdino Pimentel, in Méier. This is a mega-operation for the collection and management of waste generated at the market. The Clean Fair program is a Comlurb initiative that has been transforming the cleaning dynamics of the city's street markets, promoting greater organization, hygiene, and quality for vendors, residents, and visitors. This is the third street market in the city to receive the project and the first in the North Zone. The other two are the Glória and Nossa Senhora da Paz markets in Ipanema, South Zone of Rio.

The company will maintain a base on-site, with a compactor to serve as a transfer station for the waste generated, speeding up the removal service. 43 240-liter containers and four large 1200-liter containers will be placed at different points throughout the event so that exhibitors and attendees can properly dispose of their waste.

– More than just an operational action, the Clean Fair represents a cultural shift, encouraging awareness, collaboration, and care for public spaces. The result is a more organized fair, with a significant reduction in litter scattered on the streets, improved sanitary conditions, and greater comfort for the population – says the president of Comlurb, Renato Rodrigues.

The project's main objective is to keep the markets clean throughout their operating hours, through a model of shared cleaning and collective responsibility. Comlurb provides strategically positioned containers so that the vendors themselves can properly and immediately dispose of the waste generated during their activity. Simultaneously, teams of sanitation workers continuously maintain the common areas, ensuring the spaces are kept clean at all times. These actions include sweeping the entire area and its surroundings, as well as hydraulic washing with reused water.

– The reorganization of the Galdino Fair fulfills a long-standing demand from residents, who have great affection for this traditional space in the neighborhood. Thus, the Rio de Janeiro City Hall is providing a more organized, clean, and responsible fair, not only for vendors who drive the local economy, but also for residents and visitors of the Greater Méier area – reinforces the sub-mayor of the North Zone II, Douglas Araújo, who attended the launch along with the Regional Superintendent of the Central North Zone, Robson Coutinho.

The launch featured the participation of Chegando de Surpresa, a group of sanitation workers who use music and dance in awareness campaigns, guiding vendors and visitors on the proper disposal of waste. The Company requests the cooperation of vendors to ensure that waste is correctly placed in containers or plastic bags to facilitate the work of the sanitation workers and further expedite the cleaning service and the return of the sites to residents of the area.

The program is already showing positive results at the Glória and Nossa Senhora da Paz street markets, where the integration between vendors and Comlurb teams is directly contributing to a cleaner, more sustainable, and welcoming urban environment. With initiatives like this, the Company reinforces its commitment to modernizing urban cleaning and building a city that is increasingly conscious, organized, and prepared to offer a better quality of life to Rio de Janeiro residents.
