Comlurb prepares mega cleaning operation for Madonna's show in Copacabana, with 1.518 street cleaners

The cleaning scheme will be similar to that of New Year's Eve - Marcos de Paula/City of Rio Comlurb has prepared a major cleanup operation for Madonna's concert on Saturday (4/5) at Copacabana Beach. The operational plan is similar to that used for the New Year's Eve party in the neighborhood, and will involve 1.518 street cleaners, who will work with the support of 69 vehicles and 38 pieces of equipment. The company will make 1.500 240-liter containers available on the sand and sidewalk of Avenida Atlântica, and on the main access roads, including the subway stations, to ensure that visitors can dispose of their waste in an orderly and correct manner. To avoid disruptions to residents' routines, Comlurb will be changing the nighttime household waste collection on Saturday (4/5) in the Copacabana neighborhood, which will exceptionally be carried out on Sunday (5/5), starting at 19:XNUMX p.m. The determination also applies to large generators. Lixo Zero will monitor compliance with the rule.
The special operation for the show will begin this Friday (3/5), with pre-cleaning for the party, with actions along the entire length of Avenida Atlântica, including the sidewalk of the buildings, the lanes and the access roads, starting in the morning. Maintenance of this service will be carried out throughout the day, with a larger group working during the night and early morning, until everything is clean.
The teams will perform mechanized and manual sweeping services; waste removal and collection; cleaning of flowerbeds and gardens; cleaning of drains; cleaning of signage; removal of graffiti and irregular advertising; cleaning of sand; collection of potentially recyclable materials; and hydraulic cleaning of roads with reused water and detergent, and application of eucalyptus essence.
The collection of potentially recyclable materials will involve three street cleaners at each of the 15 inspection points set up by the state's security forces; each location will have two ecobags to store the recyclables.
Comlurb will also clean the three health centers set up especially for the show. Each of them will have six street cleaners. All equipment and utensils that will be used in the centers, including stretchers, will be washed, cleaned and disinfected before being put into use.
The vehicles that will be in operation include: 15 dump trucks; 11 compactor trucks; four satellite trucks; two cage-type trucks for selective collection; five sandblasters; two box trucks with toilets; six vans and eight minibuses for transporting street cleaners; and eight water trucks and eight motor-pump vans for hydraulic cleaning with reused water. The equipment that will be used includes: two compact mechanical shovels; seven articulated mechanical shovels; six large sweepers, four medium-sized sweepers; seven beach tractors for removing waste; and ten tractors and two mini tractors with rear attachments for sifting sand after the show.
A Zero Waste team, with 48 agents, will carry out inspections on Avenida Atlântica and access streets, issuing citations for irregular disposal of small waste (fine of R$282,38 each) and people urinating in public (fine of R$773,65 each).
