Comlurb prepares special cleaning operation for the last weekend of Carnival

Comlurb will mobilize 872 street cleaners to ensure the cleanliness of the Sambadrome, its surroundings and access roads during the Champions Parade - Disclosure

Comlurb teams will continue to be on the streets this weekend, which will be the closing weekend of Carnival 2024. The Company will mobilize 872 street cleaners to ensure the cleaning of the Sambadrome, its surroundings and access roads during the Champions Parade, on Saturday (17/2). Another group of 101 street cleaners will work for two days on Estrada Intendente Magalhães, which will host the final performances of the Silver Series, this Friday (16/2), and the Bronze Series, this Saturday. Some blocks will still be held over the weekend, and Comlurb will be cleaning them all. The highlight will be the last two mega blocks of the season, Bloco da Anitta, on Saturday, and Monobloco, which will be held on Sunday (18/2), both starting at 7 am, on Rua Primeiro de Março, in the city center. Comlurb will allocate up to 300 street cleaners to clean the streets during the performances of these blocks.

The cleaning work will be carried out with more than 200 vehicles and equipment. At all points of the 2024 Carnival, the Company has made available 2.300 240-liter containers and 700 1.200-liter metal boxes so that partygoers can dispose of their waste correctly. This year, Comlurb has 2 liters of concentrated eucalyptus essence – last year it was 800 liters – donated by Riotur, to leave the blocks' passage points with a pleasant smell after washing the streets with reused water.

The Chegando de Surpresa group, made up of street cleaners who use music and dance in awareness campaigns, will once again take part in the opening of the Intendente Magalhães Carnival, this Friday and Saturday.

From the beginning of pre-Carnival until Ash Wednesday, Comlurb had already recorded the removal of 1.182,7 tons of waste at all points of the festival, 669,2 tons of which were from the blocks, 348,1 tons from the Sambadrome parades (42,2 tons of which were potentially recyclable materials) and 165,4 tons from the access series parades on Estrada Intendente Magalhães, from the presentations on Avenida Chile and from the popular dances in the neighborhoods, in all regions of the city.

Despite the large volume of waste collected by Comlurb, this year the cleaning has been counting on a major difference, the support of the revelers, who have contributed and disposed of their waste mainly in the containers made available by the Company at all points of the Carnival, ensuring that the streets are cleaner and that the street cleaners' service becomes more agile.

The Lixo Zero teams will also be on the streets this weekend, ticketing revelers who are caught discarding small amounts of waste (fine of R$282,38 each) or urinating (fine of R$773,65 each) in public spaces. Since the start of the pre-Carnival, on January 13, until Ash Wednesday, 738 fines have been issued, 74 for discarding small amounts of waste and 664 for people caught urinating in public spaces.
