Comlurb has prepared a special cleaning operation for the Rio 2024 Marathon, which will be held on Sunday (2/6), starting and finishing at Aterro do Flamengo, passing through the entire coastline of the South Zone, up to Leblon. The plan includes maintaining the cleaning of all races, including the Half Marathon, 21km, on Saturday (1/6), and the 10km races, on Sunday, and the 5km race on Thursday (30/5). The Company will have 268 street cleaners on Saturday and Sunday, and 48 on Thursday, who will work on manual and mechanized street sweeping, waste removal and collection, and hydraulic cleaning of the roads with reused water.
During the week, Comlurb carried out pre-cleaning, ensuring that the entire route was ready to host the races, with the following services: manual and mechanized sweeping, weeding, removal and collection of waste, mowing of vegetation cover, maintenance of flowerbeds and gardens, cleaning of drain boxes, cleaning of signs, removal of graffiti and irregular advertising on posts, walls and viaducts, installation of waste bins, removal of floating waste from the water mirror of the Museum of Tomorrow, in Praça Mauá, hydraulic cleaning of the roads with reused water and tree management.
Among vehicles and equipment, the Company provided: two large sweepers, four compact sweepers, one mini sweeper, 20 blowers, three compactor trucks, two smaller satellite-type removal trucks, and two water tankers and five pump vans for hydraulic cleaning of roads with reused water.
On Saturday and Sunday, 210 240-liter containers and 36 large 1.200-liter metal boxes will be made available around the 20 hydration and food points, so that runners can dispose of their waste correctly. On Thursday, 50 240-liter containers will be made available.
