  • Comlurb collects 40 tons of waste in integrated action on Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue

Comlurb carried out a large integrated cleaning operation this Saturday (07/06) along Pastor Martin Luther King Júnior Avenue, in the North Zone of Rio. The action covered the stretch between the Acalanto Daycare Center and the Emílio Baumgart Viaduct, passing through the neighborhoods of Del Castilho, Inhaúma, Engenho da Rainha and Tomás Coelho.

At the end of the operation, 32 tons of rubble and public waste and 8 tons of household waste were removed, totaling 40 tons of waste collected.

The operation involved 140 street cleaners and 24 inspectors, with the support of various equipment, including: a water tanker, a van with a water pump, 30 manual brush cutters, 15 blowers to assist in the sweeping service, two compactor trucks, four dump trucks to remove debris and useless goods that were discarded illegally, two mechanical shovels, and a tractor-mounted weeder to remove weeds along the curbs. In addition to removing waste, services were carried out to clear vegetation, weed, clean drains, scrape posts, and remove illegal advertising. Hydraulic washing was also carried out at subway stations and bus stops.

To reinforce garbage collection, Comlurb installed more than 50 1.200-liter containers in the four neighborhoods it serves. The measure is part of the company's strategy to encourage the correct disposal of solid waste. Currently, there are almost 7 containers installed throughout the city.

Comlurb reinforces the importance of the population's collaboration in the correct disposal of their waste.
