Comlurb teams are carrying out pre-cleaning for New Year's Eve 2026 in Rio.

Comlurb teams are working at all official locations for New Year's Eve 2026, this Wednesday (12/31), with the pre-cleaning operation for the biggest New Year's Eve party in the world.

In Copacabana, the special operation includes actions along the entire length of Avenida Atlântica, including the boardwalk in front of the buildings, the lanes, and access roads, starting in the early morning hours, with a total of 700 sanitation workers and additional equipment. Maintenance of the service begins at 20 PM. Post-event cleaning starts in the early morning so that Comlurb (the city's sanitation company) can deliver the streets and sidewalks clean as soon as possible on the first day of 2026, with everything washed and deodorized for the reopening of the roads. There are 2.000 240-liter containers and another 500 large containers (1.200 liters) distributed throughout the Copacabana beachfront and access points to the party.

The president of Comlurb, Jorge Arraes, was in Copacabana this morning and spoke about the company's pre-cleaning service:

Garbage collector Pedro Paulo Rodrigues da Silva has been with the company for 40 years and has participated in New Year's Eve operations for 12 of them.

The mega-operation for the 2026 New Year's Eve cleaning in the city will involve a total of 5.260 sanitation workers, distributed across all celebration areas. The number of containers will be the largest ever. The company is betting that the public will properly dispose of their waste, which will facilitate the work of the sanitation workers and speed up the cleaning and delivery time after the event. Comlurb will also carry out the largest hydraulic street cleaning operation ever conducted in the city, with 26 water trucks and 26 high-pressure motor pumps.

There will be 6.000 240-liter containers and an additional 1.000 large 1.200-liter containers, totaling 7.000 across all festival locations. The work will be carried out with the support of 440 vehicles and equipment, including compactor and dump trucks, sweepers, water tankers for washing the streets with reused water, mechanical shovels, and beach tractors.
