Comlurb teams collected 579 tons of waste from the beaches over the weekend.

Comlurb teams were present along all 56 kilometers of the city's beaches, including Piscinão de Ramos, during the very hot weekend with crowded beaches. The company has been operating with 560 sanitation workers daily on all beaches since Christmas with the "Clean Beach" project, which intensifies beach cleaning with increased personnel and equipment.

The company collected 579 tons of waste this weekend, with 324,3 tons on Saturday (December 27th) and 254,8 tons on Sunday (until 11 pm). During the summer, Comlurb collects an average of 120 tons of beach waste per day, Monday to Friday, and 341 tons on weekends, with 146 tons on Saturdays and 195 tons on Sundays.

Comlurb recommends that beachgoers cooperate with the cleanup efforts by using the 7,000 containers provided for proper disposal and to prevent waste from remaining on the sand; 6,000 containers hold 240 liters and 1,000 hold 1.200 liters. Comlurb's president, Jorge Arraes, advises the public to dispose of waste correctly.

– Our Clean Beach operation consists of reinforcing the number of sanitation workers and equipment to cope with the increased flow of people on the beaches, including at night. This weekend there was a peak in the number of people on the beaches, higher than in all previous periods, with practically double the amount of waste collected – said Arraes.
