The exhibition criticizes the throwaway culture through works made from recycled waste - Disclosure Curated by visual artist and mosaicist Moema Branquinho, the Galpão das Artes Urbanas Helio G. Pellegrino da Comlurb, in Gávea, opens on Friday (11/7), at 11 am, the collective exhibition “Displacement and Environment”, with individual works by 18 visual artists, in addition to collective works by Architecture and Urbanism students from Universidade Santa Úrsula and the Atelier de Mosaico Contemporâneo Moema Branquinho. The exhibition will be open to the public until August 22.
The exhibition, curated by Marco Cavalcanti and Moema Branquinho, will feature masks, various paintings and sculptures, photographs, assemblages and contemporary mosaics made from recycled bamboo, empty colored nail polish bottles, electronic waste, among other materials. During the exhibition, there will be a discussion with the artists, mosaic workshops, painting with natural pigments and indigenous graphics, origami with natural products and other free activities.
A series of performances and activities will be available to the public at the opening of the exhibition. These include dance, singing and body painting made with genipap, annatto, turmeric and other natural pigments by indigenous artist Carolina Potiguara; music with sustainable percussion instruments by artist Foguete Barreto; and origami making with coconut leaves by artist José Domingos.
Possible ideas and changing practices enhance the artistic production of each participant, who seeks to interpret the concepts of sustainability, either through review, or through reuse, repurposing or recycling the diversity of waste. Moema Branquinho and the exhibiting artists also intend to contextualize contemporary artistic production in light of the profound social transformations initiated with the advent of the throwaway culture, inaugurating the overproduction of material and the brevity of things.
