The fleet, the largest in Brazil, will feature 08 modern trucks, which will ensure 42% greater productivity in pruning and branch removal services. The sustainable trucks are equipped with Euro 30 technology, the same used in the BRT's yellow articulated buses, which reduces greenhouse gas emissions by up to 6%.
"We've been making a huge effort at Comlurb since the beginning of my last term, investing in quality equipment. Today, we're introducing a new fleet that will allow for more efficient pruning, with up to 30% more capacity than we had before. I'm very happy to be able to deliver this to the public. And, little by little, Comlurb's collection, street cleaning, sweeping, lawn mowing, and pruning fleets are being completely renewed," stated Eduardo Paes.
The new fleet consists of 20 vehicles with hydraulic booms and aerial baskets capable of lifting street cleaners up to 24 meters high, facilitating access to the treetops. Another 20 vehicles, which will be used to remove the removed branches, have increased space for comfortable transportation. Two trucks are equipped with cranes for removing larger and heavier stumps. The trucks were designed to offer greater efficiency, agility, and safety to street cleaners working in Rio's tree pruning service.
Innovations and more agility
The vehicles also feature features never before seen in Brazil, such as a rotating tower that allows the street sweeper to maneuver around the treetops during pruning, making it easier to reach branches in more complex areas and situations. Another highlight is the Auto-stab system, which automatically stabilizes the vehicle. Previously, this process was manual and took up to 30 minutes; now, with the new technology, it can be done in half the time with just the touch of a button. The system electronically maps the area, calculates the vehicle's ideal stability, and ensures greater speed and safety during work.
The pruning trucks also feature an automatic hydraulic boom retraction system, which speeds the platform's return to its normal position on the truck, increasing safety for professionals in an emergency. The aerial baskets support up to 300 kilograms each, accommodating two workers, as well as pole saws and pole saws.
The dump trucks, designed for collecting branches, feature significant improvements: in addition to the driver's cab, they now have an air-conditioned auxiliary cab for four employees, providing greater comfort for the street cleaners. The tool compartment of the new vehicles has been repositioned to free up more interior space. The platform used for pruning trees that are obstructing the visibility of traffic signs has also been moved to the top of the auxiliary cab, making it fully retractable.
In addition to the new trucks, Comlurb has added 164 new lawnmowers and chainsaws for use by street cleaners, to increase service efficiency.
Sustainability and environmental preservation
The new vehicles feature Euro 6 technology, which reduces pollutant gas emissions by up to 80%. This measure reinforces Rio de Janeiro City Hall's commitment to sustainability by directly contributing to improving air quality and environmental preservation.
With the new fleet, Comlurb reaffirms its commitment to sustainability, innovation and improving the quality of life of the people of Rio.
Comlurb president Jorge Arraes highlighted the innovative nature of the initiative:
"We're delivering a new tree management fleet for pruning the city's trees. With 30% more capacity than we had before and featuring a wealth of new technology. This not only increases operator safety but also increases vehicle production and productivity. In practice, this means shorter response times for 1476, faster emergency response, better planning, and more streamlined activity scheduling. In other words, we're expanding the fleet, increasing production, and improving service quality," he stated.
