Rio de Janeiro City Hall reinforces street cleaning efforts in Varginha, in the Manguinhos Complex.

The Rio de Janeiro City Hall, through the Subprefecture of Large Complexes and Comlurb (the city's sanitation company), brought the "Community Responsibility" program to Varginha, in the Manguinhos Complex, in the North Zone. This initiative is part of a series of actions aimed at repairing streets, alleys, and lanes in one of the areas most affected by the heavy rains that hit the city two weeks ago.

– In recent weeks, we have intensified the City Hall's efforts in this region to ensure full accessibility to the roads and improve circulation for residents. It is essential that garbage be disposed of in the appropriate places, avoiding clogged drains and compromising water flow, which can cause new flooding – highlighted Marlí Peçanha, sub-mayor of the Large Complexes.

In addition to Comlurb, other municipal agencies, such as Social Assistance, the Department of Conservation, Civil Defense, and the Rio Águas Foundation, participated in the reorganization of the area. Interventions included the removal of waste and unusable materials, support for families, asphalt resurfacing, demolition of a four-story building at risk of collapse (which was already unoccupied), and dredging of the Faria-Timbó River.

– We mobilized more than 200 sanitation workers during this period, carrying out cleaning services with reused water and soap, sweeping, weeding, vegetation cutting, drain cleaning, and removal of waste and unusable items – , stated Jorge Arraes, president of Comlurb.

Like Varginha, other areas within the territory recently served by the City Hall include: Conjunto Ex-Combatentes, Vila Turismo, PAC, Coreia, Comunidade Agrícola/CH, Parque João Goulart/Favelinha, Vila São Pedro, and Varginha.
